EDPC 664 Dash Design Journal

Dash Design Journal Name: Ian J. Wharton Date:  7/27/19 Purpose of the Project:  What problem do you want to solve using Dash? What do you want Dash to do? -The problem that I want to solve using Dash is to program Dash to do tricks using Blocky. -I want Dash to do a trick after the first button is hit and then another trick after the second button. -I want Dash to bark and act like a dog Solution to the Problem:  Document your idea to solve the problem, and document each step you will take to solve the problem. What coding concepts do you plan to use to command the robot to solve the problem? Draft the blocks to help you program the Dash. -Blocky App will be used to solve the two functions - Using function and sequencing to make sure it follows sequential order. -Lights on block will be used along with sounds where a sound of a dog will be used. Results:  What did Dash do when you ran your program? Did you make any mistakes? ...

EDPC 664 Takeaways from the course

These are the great takeaways I have from the class Institutes In Education which covered programming and coding which can be inserted into lesson plans and activities. Wonder Workshop, Coding Apps & Puzzles- With the use of Dash which was the robot assigned to each student f or this course, we use two apps Wonder Workshop and Blockly to figure out the coding to allow Dash to do certain movements. Throughout the app there are so many things that I think any student can get easily attached and invested into. As it pertains to the grades I work with which is K-5, some activities introduced new sounds (Dash pretended he was a dog) and new movements (Dash pretends he is a car/robot). With these lessons students are able to use Dash to identify animals, transportation and even music since we had an assignment that required Dash to dance ! Although it can be a little challenging at first, both Dash and the apps is a good starting spot for students to get into coding. Weekly...

Week 6

Having resources available that focuses on learning disabilities could be helpful in providing additional information to parents/guardians of children who have learning disabilities and are not sure where to look.  If a parent has a concerns that there child may have a learning disability but is not sure who to go to for their child to be assessed, online resources could help point parents to the right direction. Online resources also allows information to be readily available rather than having to meet face to face with a therapist or doctor constantly. These online sources also can be helpful for teachers who teach students with learning disabilities in a sense that it could be provide additional information and material to make sure that students are learning at their developmental level and feeling comfortable while doing so.   It can also help educate teachers who may not have much experience working with children with learn...

Keystone Assignment/ Case Study

Keystone Assignment: Case Study Student Description Dante Torres is one of the students in my second grade classroom that has an IEP and 504. His  F&P reading level is a Level L which is close to being at the proper reading level for a second  grader approaching the end of the year. Despite being diagnosed, Dante still strives in the class  but with limitations. On exams, Dante does well when given extra time and prompting. His  scores along range him at a Level 2-3 students. Dante is a student that doesn’t have any  behavioral issues and is extremely quiet in the classroom and puts forth effort when he can.  However the only weakness Dante has is his inability to focus. Dante usually “zones out” during  instruction and if it isn’t caught he will not pay attention for long periods of time. When it is  caught, Dante tries his best to get his work done when he can. Dante's IEP indicates that he has  trouble with the...
